You don&#8217;t have any experience speaking, you aren&#8217;t a hot-shot developer, or you feel like you don&#8217;t have anything to offer the\u00a0WordPress community. You&#8217;re wrong. If you are reading, and you are thinking of attending WordCamp Salt Lake City (or\u00a0<em>any<\/em> WordCamp), that means you are a\u00a0WordPress user &#8212; and more involved than your average\u00a0WordPress user, even, because you are engaged in the community. And if you are a\u00a0WordPress user, you have a story. Maybe you used\u00a0WordPress to start a podcast, maybe you&#8217;re using WordPress\u00a0to power your e-commerce site, maybe you&#8217;re a musician or an artist that sells digital copies of your work on your website, or maybe you use\u00a0WordPress.com to communicate with a network of like-minded readers and bloggers. Whatever your story is, we want to hear it. <em>That&#8217;s what WordCamps are about.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Last year,\u00a0we conducted a poll to find out what folks in the WordPress community found most important about WordCamps, ranking everything from what they value in presentations to what is the most important factor in making a WordCamp worthwhile.<\/p>\n<h3>Here are a few things we learned.<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The vast majority of you\u201380%\u2013have been to a WordCamp before, and 64% of responders have been to WCSLC in the past.<\/li>\n<li>Nearly 50% of responders were developers, with front-end developers taking the lead with 27%.<\/li>\n<li>25% of responders worked for a WordPress agency, with 20% following as freelancers.<\/li>\n<li>Several of you have a major fear of public speaking, and when asked what would make speaking more appealing\u00a0to you, y\u2019all started clowning around with answers like, \u201cProbably drugs,\u201d \u201cA pill to cure stage fright,\u201d and, \u201cDesire on my part.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>When it comes to presentation\u00a0topics, you tend to prefer\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\ufffc\ufffcHeavy, developer-centric topics (WP API, JavaScript, WordPress core, plugin development, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffcDesigner-centric topics (responsive design, theme development, user interface design, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffcBusiness-centric topics (selling physical\/digital products with WordPress, how to use WordPress for business owners, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffcUser-centric topics (SEO, cool plugins to use, podcasting, how to customize the dashboard, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>That pretty much covers everything!<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>When picking presentations to attend, the top three most important factors you identified are\u2026<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>That the presentation\u00a0addresses something you haven\u2019t heard of or learned yet.\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc\ufffc<\/li>\n<li>That the\u00a0presentation is\u00a0technically advanced.<\/li>\n<li>That the\u00a0presentation is unique\/unusual for\u00a0WordCamps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The single most important thing to a successful WordCamp?<\/h4>\n<p>According to the small sample of folks who participated in our poll, one thing reigns above all else:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 6\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>A fantastic speaker lineup<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Why am I telling you all of this?<\/h3>\n<p>Because maybe, just maybe, this will give you an idea of what kind of presentations our particular crowd is looking for\u2013although we\u2019re a small WordCamp, so we\u2019d love to see what you have in mind no matter what!<\/p>\n<h3>Please join us and share your WordPress knowledge at WCSLC!<\/h3>\n<p>Please fill out the following form with details on who you are and your proposed presentation.\u00a0If you&#8217;d like to propose multiple topics, please submit the form multiple times, once for each topic.\u00a0<strong>We will be closing speaker applications <del>August\u00a013th<\/del>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">July 16th<\/span>, 2017, so get on it!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WordCamp SLC will take place on September 23.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>The call for speakers is now closed.
