Guy is a self-taught developer who is currently the Senior Software Engineer for MOJO Marketplace. Before joining MOJO, he worked as a developer and software development manager for Blendtec. Like a lot of us, he got his start freelancing and then starting his own development agency before getting a “real” job. Now he helps maintain MOJO’s system that handles thousands of WordPress installs every month.

Speaker Announcement: Ryan Sullivan
2 years ago, Ryan founded WP Site Care — a dedicated WordPress support agency that you can use for everything from regular maintenance to fixing your broken theme. Since then, WP Site Care has earned rave reviews and built a small army of loyal followers.
Nothing in business has been more gratifying for Ryan than building a team and seeing the people around him thrive and grow. “The first few years running WP Site Care have been a total rollercoaster,” he says, “and I’m looking forward to many more years of business thrills to come, as well as the future of WordPress as a whole.”
Be sure to give Ryan a big “thank you” when you see him in September, WPSiteCare is also one of our local sponsors!
Speaker Announcement: Mika (Ipstenu) Epstein
Mika — or Ipstenu, as she’s better known on the Internets — is well known throughout the WordPress community. She’s spoken at many WordCamps but is possibly best known for being one of the members of the plugin review team. She’s currently known as the Half-Elf Support Rogue for DreamHost where she spends equal time evangelizing WordPress and responding to WordPress support issues. She even manages to find time to write — both on her blog, halfelf.org, and in the form of ebooks that you can purchase and download from her store!
We’re incredibly excited to have her at WordCamp Salt Lake City!
Meet with local WordPress peeps!
Can’t wait for WordCamp? Neither can we. Did you know that you can hang out with your local WordPress devs, users, and gurus twice a month for free?
UtahWP is your local WordPress meetup group. They have meetings in Draper at the MOJO Marketplace offices and Orem at the UVU Business Resources building. Every month, a speaker comes and presents on topics ranging from WordPress development to picking a good WordPress plugin or theme. Meetups are organized through the Meetup.com group and everyone is welcome. The Draper group generally meets on the last Wednesday of the month, and the Orem group meets on the second Thursday. RSVPing isn’t required, but it’s nice to let the organizers know so they know how much pizza to order. 🙂
Slack is what all the cool kids are doing these days, right? UtahWP also has its very own Slack, so you can hang out virtually with your local WordPress community. To join the Slack channel, you’ll need Slack (but that’s okay, desktop and mobile apps are available or you can just use the web app), and just fill out this form on the UtahWP site. There’s even a channel on the UtahWP Slack just for WordCamp SLC discussion.
Come hang out and meet some WordPress locals
