{"id":594,"date":"2012-09-14T09:35:51","date_gmt":"2012-09-14T15:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2012.slc.wordcamp.org\/?p=594"},"modified":"2012-09-14T08:16:28","modified_gmt":"2012-09-14T14:16:28","slug":"jake-spurlock-wcslc-speaker-profile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slc.wordcamp.org\/2012\/jake-spurlock-wcslc-speaker-profile\/","title":{"rendered":"Jake Spurlock &#8212; WCSLC Speaker Profile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/2012.slc.wordcamp.org\/speakers\/#jake-spurlock\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2012.slc.wordcamp.org\/files\/2012\/08\/jake-spurlock.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"128\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-595\" \/><\/a>Jake is a former Utah native now living in California and working for <a href=\"http:\/\/makezine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MAKE magazine<\/a>.  &#8220;The big site that I work on all day is makezine.com but there are a few others too like <a href=\"http:\/\/makerfaire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MakerFaire.com<\/a> and others&#8230;When I started working at MAKE, we did a lot of incremental updates, about six months ago, I got to do an overhaul, and with a blank slate, every line of code on the site is new, and written by me.&#8221;  Jake got his start with WordPress in 2005 when he was building a podcasting network in iWeb.  &#8220;I quickly grew beyond that software and used WordPress, knowing that I could have category-specific RSS feeds. Boom! Haven&#8217;t turned back since.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jake&#8217;s favorite thing(s) about WordPress came in list form:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>List of favorite functions\/classes\/APIs\/things:<\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"http:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Class_Reference\/WP_Query\" target=\"_blank\">WP_QUERY<\/a><br \/>\n2. <a href=\"http:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Function_Reference\/register_post_type\" target=\"_blank\">register_post_type()<\/a><br \/>\n3. <a href=\"http:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Transients_API\" target=\"_blank\">Transients API<\/a><br \/>\n4. <a href=\"http:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Function_Reference\/update_post_meta\" target=\"_blank\">update_post_meta()<\/a><br \/>\n5. <a href=\"http:\/\/vip.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">WordPress VIP program<\/a><br \/>\n6. Awesome community<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jake will be talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/2012.slc.wordcamp.org\/session\/responsive-theme-development-with-bootstrap\/\" target=\"_blank\">responsive development with the Twitter Bootstrap framework<\/a>. &#8220;In the last nine months I have been using Bootstrap for a variety of projects at work. It&#8217;s been a fun platform to build on top of, and as a form of evangelism, I wanted to share the good news of the project.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When he isn&#8217;t working at MAKE, Jake loves the outdoors.  &#8220;Cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing and camping.
